Carl Pellonpaa Passes Away

ISHPEMING, Mich (WLUC) - A sad day for Upper Michigan. Carl V. Pellonpaa has passed away. The Ishpeming native and a fixture on TV6, died Saturday.

Carl is best known as the Host of Finland Calling, or Suomi Kutsuu.
The show was a Sunday Morning staple on TV6 for 50 years.
Carl had a keen sense of humor, was quick with a joke and liked to surprise colleagues at work.
He had a long and storied career not just in television, but also in state and county government, the U.S. National Ski Hall of Fame, the Upper Peninsula Finnish community and the Ishpeming community.

Carl had been in poor health recently. His family was surrounding him as he passed this morning.

His funeral is expected to take place next Saturday, September 8th. Visitation is planned for next Friday at an Ishpeming funeral home.

Carl Pellonpaa will be missed by everyone. He was 87 years old.
