CALUMET, Mich. (WLUC) - Two Calumet High School girls receive awards for their work in computing. The National Center for Women in Information Aspirations regional honorable mentions go to graduating senior Yvonne Oja and junior Elicia Giachino. Awards were presented during the Calumet School Board meeting. A presentation ceremony was held down state as well, but the girls were unable to attend. They are two of 70 Michigan girls honored for their aspirations in computing.

"In both cases both of the girls have been active in computer science courses here in Calumet. One of the young women has been active in robotics. So, we recognize them for their accomplishments and their work with helping younger girls get involved in computing," said MTU computer science professor and NCWIT Aspirations Award Committee member Linda Ott.

Awardees are eligible to apply for certain scholarships and welcomed into a Facebook group to network with other winners.
