BRUCE CROSSING, Mich. (WLUC) - There was a large structure fire in Bruce Crossing Saturday night leaving a shop in devastation.

At approximately 8:20 p.m., the Bruce Crossing Fire Department was paged out for a fully engulfed structure fire at Nippa Excavation, which is located behind Aspirus U.P. Clinic and close to other businesses in town.

The shop at Nippa Excavation was full of and surrounded by logs and tires. There were a lot of explosions once crews got on scene as tires were popping inside the structure. The metal roof of the structure also made it difficult to get the blaze under control.

After three hours, the fire was extinguished with the help of front end loaders and about 25 fire fighters on the scene. In addition to Bruce Crossing Fire Department, Ewen Fire, Trout Creek Fire and Watersmeet Fire assisted in putting out the fire.

Bruce Crossing Fire Chief Jared Kurtti spoke with property owner Pat Nippa and he stated that he had just fired up his wood stove about 30 minutes prior to the blaze starting.

The fire was called in by many citizens as the fire could be seen from miles away.
