HANCOCK, Mich. (WLUC) - Bridgefest 2019 kicked off on Thursday and it began with helicopter rides.
Lake Superior Helicopters came to the Upper Peninsula from Minnesota for the tenth year in a row to offer Bridgefest-goers the option for a ride.
"We're just getting started and the good news is we're down from $49 last year to $35 this year. And then that's for a two mile tour, and then we go out as far as a 10 mile tour, out to and circles around Dollar Bay," says pilot Paul Kromschroeder.
Riders see both Houghton and Hancock from the sky, giving an aerial view of almost everything that the area has to offer.
Most rides are intentionally nice and smooth, but adrenaline-lovers do have the option of adding on an upgrade to have the doors removed, turns made tighter, and to fly at a higher altitude.
Helicopter rides are available throughout Bridgefest, which runs until June 16. No reservations are needed - rides are first come, first served at the Ramada Inn in Hancock.
