A Marquette County Mexican restaurant is expanding with a new location in Houghton.

Border Grill has purchased the building once occupied by Kentucky Fried Chicken and Long John Silvers on Memorial Drive in Houghton.

They are planning to begin construction on the new location next week. They don’t currently have a starting date, but are hoping to move quickly to open their doors as soon as possible.

The new restaurant will have the same menu as its current locations. Border Grill is excited to bring its offerings closer to the people of Houghton.

“We see a lot of the folks from the Keweenaw coming through the restaurants, and just looked at the area and felt that was a solid move for us to head north, with the university and the surrounding communities of Houghton,” said Nathan Mileski, Director of Operations and Executive Chef.

Border Grill currently has three locations. One in Negaunee and two in Marquette on Washington Street and Third Street.
