On Thursday, October 6, at approximately 11:45 a.m., a pilot flying over the area of Lake Michigan near Naubinway, spotted what he believed to be a body on the shoreline.

The pilot reported the sighting to the Mackinac County Sheriff's Office and deputies responded to the area and located the body.

The Charlevoix County Medical Examiner was contacted for assistance in the investigation. The body was taken to Grand Rapids for positive identification and autopsy.

The forensic pathologist there identified the body as that of Gregory Lawrence Froede. He had been reported missing on September 16, 2016 when he went overboard near Hog Island.

Full results of the autopsy are not available pending laboratory results and testing.

Both the Mackinac County and Charlevoix County Sheriff's Office are continuing their joint investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
