Big turn out for Run for Lakeview despite the rain

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Even though the rain cancelled the Baraga Harvest Fest on Saturday, it sure didn't stop the hundreds of runners and walkers in the 2nd Annual Run for Lakeview 5k.

The event not only included a 5k but a one mile race as well to reach out to the youngest of runners. Organizers say about 150 people showed up between the two races.

All the money raised today would go to projects to continue to improve Lakeview arena after last year's $150,000 award from Hockeyville USA 2016.

After the race participants switched their tennis shoes to skates for the free open skate in the afternoon.

"This year is really going to tell us where we are at with our race and where we can build on it for next year," said Mark Janofski, the race director. "This year is not so much about fundraising as it is about establishing the race and next year we can come back and raise more money."

Organizers were also collecting money to pay for a 7-year-old's hockey fees as he would not be able to play without help.
