Bay College Honors Outstanding Staff
Bay College honored its 2018 Outstanding Staff during an awards banquet that was held on April 18. Any Bay College employee, Board member, student, alumni, or community member may nominate a full-time or regular part-time exempt or non-exempt employee for the Bay College Outstanding Staff Award. These individuals must have completed three years of employment at Bay College. Nominees are judged by their job knowledge; respect and enthusiasm toward colleagues, students, and community members; creating a positive influence within the work environment; collaboratively working with colleagues and staff.
The 2018 Outstanding Staff are as follows:
Rick Hansen was hired in July 2007 as a Custodian for Bay College West. Rick holds his Associate degree from Gogebic Community College.
Rick is a team contributor. He often shares his ideas and suggestions when it comes to the West Campus. If there is discussions around construction or upgrades to the West Campus, he provides solid insight and advice, such as traffic flow, or use of space, or different set up suggestions for events held on campus. All these ideas stem from what type of experiences will our students and community members feel when they step front onto to the West Campus.
Rick is responsible for training the maintenance work-study student employees. He does this in a very encouraging way, showing best cleaning practices and encouraging students to do their best job. He is also very connected to all students and can regularly be seen helping fix dead batteries, keys locked in cars, etc. and does it in a way that the student feels as though someone is taking care of them, and not as though they are inconveniencing a Bay employee to get help with a car.
Pat Bazan, Building Maintenance Supervisor stated “Rick’s positive attitude and ability to work with students, faculty, staff and the community at Bay College, his general concern to do a great job, and his role as a leader is being recognized with this award as an outstanding staff member, and is well deserved.”
Laura Moloney was hired September 1989 to serve as a primary point of contact for students attending Bay College at the Dickinson Center. As the center changed locations throughout Dickson County to the current campus site, Laura’s responsibilities changed as well. Laura is currently the Director of Bay College West Student Services.
Laura was nominated for this award because of her dedication to Bay College and to the students of Bay College. Laura works diligently to ensure all of the students are well advised. She provides a wealth of knowledge to the students. As stated by the nominator, “I can hear reassurance in the student’s voices when they leave her office.”
With Laura leading the way, the staff at the West Campus have been able to get the students admitted and retained. Enrollment is up at the West Campus, and it is the work of the Student Services team at the West Campus that helped make this happen.
Travis Blume, Vice President of Student Services stated, “Laura is patient, kind, a champion, and most importantly awesome. These words describe her efforts in her daily work and also on special projects, like helping start the career closet at Bay College West.”
