ESCANABA, Mich. (WLUC)- Runners in Escanaba braved the cold for a good cause Saturday. The Bay College Student Nurses Association held their 2nd annual Gobble Wobble 5k walk run. Proceeds from Saturday's run benefit Abbie Silverstone, an 11-year-old Escanaba girl recently diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

Over 50 runners signed up for Saturday's event, raising around $600. Organizers say community fundraising is an important part of Bay's nursing program.

“That's a huge part of nursing, getting out there and interacting with our local populations,” said Jennifer Farnsworth, Student Nurses Association Adviser. “I was an alum from the Bay nursing program myself so it's good to be back here and teaching the students and being embedded with them in these community activities.”

The next benefit for Abbie Silverstone is a community breakfast at the Escanaba High School scheduled for December 9th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. There is also a charity account open for Abbie at the Delta County Credit Union.
