MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Nick Baumgartner is making his tour across the U.P. in preparation for his trip to the Olympics. Baumgartner is now a three-time Olympian, who is leaving Sunday for South Korea.
One of Baumgartner’s first stops this week was at the Marquette Senior High School where one thousand students heard his inspirational talk, telling his story of how he made it to the Olympics.
Baumgartner also emphasized never giving up on your dreams, despite physical or emotional set-backs.
“Unlike most places in the United States, the U.P. is U.P. proud. We have a lot of pride in what we do and we have a lot of pride in our people,” said MSHS Principal Jonathon Young. “It's evident in not only when we see an Olympian like Nick here, but any of our people. The success and togetherness that we have as a community is phenomenal.”
Baumgartner was also at a Negaunee school Wednesday afternoon. He’s heading to schools in Iron Mountain, Iron River, and Crystal Falls pep rallies later this week.
