MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Tom Leonard is currently serving as the Michigan Speaker of the House, but Friday he was in Marquette for a different reason.
He's running to be the state's next Attorney General. Leonard is a former prosecutor for downstate Genesee County working the Special Crimes Division in Flint. Friday Leonard spoke to a group of supporters at the Landmark Inn. He says it's his experience that makes him standout as the best candidate.
"I'm the one candidate that has experience within the Attorney General's Office, in fact when I'm elected the state's next Attorney General, it's going to be the first time in the history of our state that we've elected somebody that has worked in that office before," Leonard said. "I'm ready to go on day one, and would be honored to earn the citizen's vote."
The current Attorney General, Bill Schutte is term limited and is running for Governor. Leonard will be on the ballot this November if he's elected at the Republican Party State Convention in August.
