A police cruiser was struck in Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin, Monday morning because a semi-truck was traveling too fast for conditions.

An Ashwaubenon Public Safety officer was entering the intersection on eastbound Cormier Road at southbound Ashland Avenue around 9:30 a.m. when a southbound semi-truck failed to stop for the red light and struck the patrol car in the driver’s door.

The impact caused the patrol car to enter the median. The officer was initially trapped in the vehicle but was able to get free uninjured.

Ashland Avenue was closed for approximately two and half hours during clean-up an investigation.

This is a good reminder to drive within safe speeds so you are able to stop and/or avoid crashes when conditions deteriorate.

The semi driver was cited for Operating too Fast for Conditions.
