Art helps build confidence, fights cabin fever

ISHPEMING, Mich. (WLUC) - Several souls braved the cold to attend a wire-wrapping jewelry workshop at Inspired Art and Gifts in Ishpeming on Thursday.

"The thing I like best about wire-wrapping is that you can take a found object and make it into something beautiful and useful," says Inspired Art and Gifts owner, Stacey Willey.

Around twice a month, Inspired Art and Gifts puts on workshops of all types for the community.

"We have acrylic painting workshop, stained glass workshops, jewelry making workshops, we do the wire wrapping, and we also do bead work," says Willey.

While it may seem like just another way to spend your downtime, Willey says using art as a medium works wonders for confidence.

"We have a lot of untapped talent I have found over the years, that there have been so many people that have taken classes where everybody sits and paints the same thing all in one night and the next thing I know two months later they're coming in with something they actually at home," WIlley says.

"I'd like to pick up this hobby to express myself creatively," says workshop attendee Victoria Sowle.

"I'm really happy that inspired art and gifts is here, and it's a good community event," says Sowle.

Now that the weather is getting colder, remember having a hobby may help with keeping yourself from going stir crazy.

Consider giving art a try.

"It's definitely a good way, especially to get your girlfriends together and get out and take a class together," says Willey.
