ISHPEMING, Mich. (WLUC) - UP Health System – Bell recently announced that Nurse Practitioner Annie Skewis has been recognized as the hospital’s 2019 Mercy Award winner.
The Mercy Award recognizes one employee from each of LifePoint Health’s hospitals who profoundly touches the lives of others and best represents the spirit and values on which the company was founded.

The Mercy Award is an annual recognition program established in 2001 to honor the life and contributions of Scott Mercy, LifePoint’s founding chairman and chief executive officer. The award is the highest honor a LifePoint employee can receive.

“At UPHS – Bell, we share LifePoint’s commitment to Making Communities Healthier, and we recognize this is supported by the good work and service of our employees on and off the job,” said Mitch Leckelt, CEO of UPHS – Bell. “We are extremely proud to recognize Annie Skewis for her efforts on behalf of our patients and our community. She goes above and beyond each and every day to ensure that every person she encounters receives the highest level of care and compassion.”

Skewis currently works in the Express Care Clinic at Bell where she treats many different illnesses and injuries that come through the clinic. She has treated as many as 60 patients a day depending on the time of year, all while holding quality and patient satisfaction to a high standard. But her involvement with Bell and in our community goes far beyond seeing patients. After the stillbirth of her daughter Mia in December of 2010, Skewis has become an advocate for stillbirth and infant loss in our community. She is currently working on organizing further support groups and fundraisers around stillbirth and infant loss and helping with implementing standards of care around follow up with mothers who are going through that experience.

Each hospital winner, including Skewis, will be considered for LifePoint’s 2019 companywide Mercy Award. The company wide winner will be announced this summer and honored during a ceremony in Nashville, Tenn., in August, to which Skewis and all hospital winners are invited to attend.
