An Ishpeming man charged with homicide is going into evaluation for competency to stand trial after a status conference Monday in Marquette County Circuit Court.

24-year-old Derek James Blemke is charged with homicide-open murder after fatally stabbing 21-year-old Brandon Allen LaFavre.

The incident took place in June at a Marquette apartment on Wright Street.

According to the autopsy report, the victim suffered 24 knife wound injuries, in which one to the heart was fatal.

No new court hearings will be scheduled until the judge rules on Blemke's competency.
