ELY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLUC) - The Greenwood American Legion put the “fun” in “fundraiser”at the third official Beanbag Tournament.
Fourteen teams competed against each other for the title of first place.
Proceeds from the fundraising event went back to veteran donation funds- primarily funding the Honor Flight. Last year, the Legion raised over $2,800 to send four veterans on the flight.
State Representative Sara Cambensy even showed up for a round.
"Well, every time I’ve got a few extra minutes, its always nice when I get asked to come out and help out with a fundraiser. And this one that helps make sure we raise money for our veterans who get to go on the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. was just something that I wasn't willing to turn down,” said Cambensy.
The Legion is hoping to raise $300 with the beanbag event. The Upper Peninsula honor flight will be taking place May 22nd.
