MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Monday was Ainsley Kargela’s first birthday in Heaven.
Ainsley fought her battle with Rhabdomyosarcoma three times before it finally took her life on July 22, 2018. June 11th was her 9th birthday.
To celebrate, the family has set up a 501(c)(3) charitable organization called Ainsley's HALO, in her memory that provides scholarships to area youth for hockey and dance programs to help keep her memory alive. They are also hosting a Lego drive for the Children's Hospital of Michigan during the entire month of June.
"Legos are expensive so no one donates them and that’s what the kids all want. They are in the hospital for hours at a time and to have a Lego set to do it’s just great for them. It makes the time go by and they don’t think about what they are doing,” said Patricia Williams, Ainsley’s mom.
"Ainsley was the best,” said Ainsley’s best friend, Keira Lindberg. “She came into the world and made it a better place and when she left it was 110 times better than it was before."
Queen City Burger Company is also celebrating Ainsley Tuesday by donating 10 percent of sales to the Ainsley's HALO charitable foundation.
