ALLOUEZ TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLUC) - A young girl was rescued after an ORV rollover crash in Keweenaw County on Saturday evening.

Deputies from the Keweenaw County Sheriff's Office were called to a single ORV rollover crash on private property off 5-Mile Road in Allouez Township around 5:06 p.m.

A 12-year-old Ahmeek girl was operating at 2013 Arctic Cat Wildcat, traveling down a trail, when she lost control of the machine going around a corner, deputies say. The ORV flipped over, landed on the girl, and trapped her underneath.

The 12-year-old girl's younger sister, who witnessed the accident, called 911 and met rescuers at a local road before leading them to her sister, deputies say.

Those who responded were able to lift the ORV off the girl, who was then transported to Aspirus Keweenaw by Mercy Ambulance. Deputies say she was later airlifted to the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Sheriff's deputies say an 11-year-old passenger who was on the ORV was uninjured.

The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff's office.

Keweenaw County Sheriff's Office was assisted by Ahmeek Off Road Rescue, Allouez Township Medical First Responders, and Mercy Ambulance.
