UPDATE: Woman injured in two vehicle crash in Chocolay Township

CHOCOLAY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLUC) - UPDATE: Monday, Feb. 11, 4:15 p.m:

A white van driven by a man from L'Anse was traveling southbound when he ran into the side of a vehicle entering US-41 from Silver Creek Road.

The vehicle was a black passenger car that was being driven by a woman from Lansing, who is an employee of the State of MI.

She was trapped in her car due to damage from the crash. Chocolay Township Fire used the "jaws of life" to extricate her from the car. She was transported to UP Health System Marquette and was treated for what is believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

Evidence at the scene and witness statements indicated that the van driven by the man from L'Anse ran a red light at the intersection. He was cited and was not injured in the crash.

Chocolay Township Police were assisted at the scene by Marquette City Police, Michigan State Police, Chocolay Township Fire, UP Health System EMS, and Mr. Wrecker.
A crash caused traffic back-ups along US-41 in Chocolay Township late Monday morning.

The accident happened around 10:45 a.m., at the intersection of US-41 and Silver Creek Road, right by the Chocolay Township Fire Hall.

At least one person was taken from the scene in a U.P. Health System-Marquette ambulance.

A car with a State of Michigan logo on it was damaged.

Chocolay Township Police, Marquette City Police, the Michigan State Police and the Chocolay Township Fire Department were all on scene.

No other details have been released at this time.
