A motorcycle club's annual Toy Drive raises $7,000 worth of toys

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) Friday night a motorcycle club in Marquette purchased $7,000 worth of toys, all for children in need.

This is the 21st annual toy drive for the North Coast Chapter of the Highland Clan Motorcycle Club.

Members picked out a variety of toys at the Shopko in Marquette, to donate to several organizations in the Upper Peninsula.

Thanks to sponsors, this has been the biggest shopping spree and their best year

Club members like Peter Heikkila, are thankful for how far the Toy Drive has come since starting 21 years ago.

"Back in the day when we first started out we were lucky to raise $300 to $500 but because of the support of the community, that has doubled tripled and quadrupled as time went on, said Peter Heikkila. “We're very thankful for the sponsors that support us each and every year and we hope to continue the practice.”

The club donates to multiple groups every year including the Mining Journal Cheer Club, St. Vincent de Paul in Negaunee and the Giving Tree at Lake View School.
