MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - On Saturday afternoon, people gathered at the Mattson Lower Harbor Park for a 5K run to raise money for a youth mission trip.
Money raised from the event, put on by the First Presbyterian Church of Marquette, will go towards a youth mission trip to Puerto Rico next summer.
In Puerto Rico, the youth will help rebuild homes destroyed by Hurricane Maria in 2017.
"I feel it's important to bring the youth on these mission trips to get them out and just to see something different than Marquette, and to help a neighbor by showing compassion and just getting out of their comfort zones,” said First Presbyterian Christian Education Director, Kelsey Nordengren.
Nordengren added that the total cost of the trip is between $12,000-$14,000 plus the cost of airfare.
If you would like to help the church reach its goal, you can drop donations off to the church at 120 N. Front St. in Marquette.
