Political campaign signs are here to stay for City of Marquette

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Political Campaign Signs may be popping up more often.

The City of Marquette repealed the sign ordinance code earlier this year, allowing non-commercial yard signs to stay up for an unlimited length of time.

“We’ve recently changed the sign ordinance in the City of Marquette through the land development code,” said Marquette City Manager Mike Angeli. “It was a long, lengthy process that we just completed earlier this spring.”

The Land Development code states signs can be no larger than 24 square feet, with a maximum height of six feet. Only four non-commercial yard signs are allowed per lot.

Signs improperly place will be confiscated and the candidate will receive a written warning. If more than one sign is confiscated, the candidate will receive a $50.00 citation.

Question regarding sign placement should be directed to the Code Enforcement Dept. at the Community Development Office at 906-225-4021.
