$46,000 drug bust made during breaking and entering incident in Laurium

During a search July 22, officers located a large quantity of crystal methamphetamine, prescription medications, marijuana, a firearm and ammunition.

LAURIUM, Mich. (WLUC) - Officials in the Village of Laurium are investigating more into a large marijuana bust and breaking and entering incident that occurred late Monday morning.

According to the Laurium Police Department, a breaking and entering had occurred on Calumet Street at 11:55PM Monday. A neighbor had seen one person near the incident and heard glass breaking.

When officers arrived, they found no suspects on or near the scene. They did find a large marijuana growing operation inside the residence that is worth $46,000. Police contacted the homeowner, who was not home during the incident. No arrest has been made and the breaking and entering incident is still under investigation.

Houghton County Prosecutor’s Office has authorized a one count warrant for controlled substance, delivery and manufacture of marijuana.

There’s no arraignment date set for the suspect. More information will be released by the Laurium Police Department when it becomes available.

Michigan State Police, UPSET, Houghton County Sheriff’s, Keweenaw County Sheriff’s and K-9 Unit, and Calumet Police Department assisted the Laurium Police Department.
