PESHTIGO, Wisc. (WLUC) - UPDATE: 12/24, 5:40 PM-December 24: Marinette County Sheriff's office identifying the victim of the fatal one vehicle crash as 42 year old Edward V. Moreno Jr., who is from the Town of Peshtigo. Moreno was alone in the car. The crash remains under investigation but speed and alcohol are believed to be factors.
Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve reports that just before 8:00 p.m. Sunday, December 23rd the Marinette County dispatch received a call of a serious one vehicle crash in Peshtigo, Wisconsin. The collision was located on County Trunk B.B./Shore Drive, just south of Leaf Road.
Preliminary investigation revealed a four door sedan was northbound at a high rate of speed. The vehicle lost control and went off the roadway to the right and then hit a large oak tree.
The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene by the Deputy Coroner.
The cause of death was determined to be massive head and internal injuries, which were sustained in the crash. The driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
The victim of the crash is believed to be a local man in his 40’s. His name is being withheld pending further investigation and the notification of his family.
County B.B./Shore Drive was closed for several hours during the investigation and extraction of the victim by the fire department.
The Marinette County Sheriff’s office, Marinette Police, Emergency Medical Services and Town of Peshtigo Fire Department all responded to the scene.
This marks the 10th traffic fatality in Marinette County in 2018.
Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash.
