Barbara Bellinger recently started her career with TV6 as the Multimedia Journalist for the Escanaba Bureau. She will graduate with a master’s in journalism from Michigan State University in August 2023.
Barbara initially focused on print journalism during her master’s program and was published in newspapers across the state including the Detroit News, Benzie County Record Patriot, Traverse City Record-Eagle and the Cadillac News and worked for MIRS News as a Capitol correspondent for a year.
However, after talking her way into Focal Point, an award-winning student-run news broadcast at MSU, she fell in love with television reporting and didn’t look back. She went on to intern at WILX News 10 Lansing in her final semester, which helped land her current gig in Esky.
Born in Minnesota, Barbara lived there for two days in the hospital and then hopped a train with her mother to join the rest of the family in Illinois. Her father’s job as a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Refuge Manager took them to Oklahoma, Montana and finally up to Alaska, where they settled on Kodiak Island.
Her dad’s wandering feet were catching, and she’s lived in a variety of places, moving 54 times in her lifetime, mainly up and down the West Coast. However, once she made it to Michigan in 2019, she knew she had found her forever home.
She’s already begun exploring the shores of the Great Lakes Michigan and Superior and is excited to discover all the beautiful nooks and crannies the U.P. has to offer.
