Brookridge Heights in Marquette participating in Paw-fect Pet Contest
The assisted living facility asks for people to enter their pets for a chance to help UPAWS
MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Brookridge Heights is participating in a national contest for pet photography.
The assisted living facility is dedicating 2022 to its Grateful Give Back campaign. It wants to perform at least 2,022 good deeds this year. One of this month’s good deeds involves some furry friends.
“Part of the goodness and the Grateful Give Back that we’re doing for March is surrounded around pets,” said Lindsay Hemmila, the facility’s Director of Sales & Marketing. “So it’s good to do fun things. It feels nice.”
This month, the facility is taking part in Elegance’s national inaugural Paw-fect Pet Contest. U.P. residents can submit photos of their pets to be voted on for a chance to win prizes. Prizes include a personalized pet portrait from Crown & Paw, a new pet wardrobe, and food & treats for a year.
The owner(s) of the winning pet would also elect one assisted living facility to give $2,022 to a charitable pet organization of their choice. If Brookridge wins, they have already selected UPAWS. People can vote twice a day online (one vote every 12 hours).
“They’re not forgetting the animals that give everybody joy,” said Ann Brownell, UPAWS’ Community Outreach & Volunteer Coordinator. “It’s just a great, great thing to get that support, and we’re excited about it.”
Brownell says the money would go to UPAWS’ general fund for all things pet care. No matter the outcome, she says the point is to show pets love.
“Celebrate the love of an animal in your life,” Brownell stated. “Head out and adopt wherever you are. Go to your local shelter. Go to your local rescue. Bring some joy to your life.”
Hemmila says the contest is exciting because it’s unique.
“You don’t always think about your pets,” she said. “But, when you think about what they give to you and how they fulfill love and just kindness in your life, it completely makes sense. it feels good to do something for those who can’t speak for themselves.”
If you are interested in participating, Brookridge Heights is encouraging you to get your pet pictures uploaded as soon as possible. To find how to submit and vote, click here. You can also find the link to the contest on the Brookridge Heights and UPAWS Facebook pages.
As part of the contest, Brookridge Heights will have a free “Purr-fessional Photo Shoot” event on March 12th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Pet photos will be free, and any monetary & pet donations will go to UPAWS. All submissions will be accepted until March 31st.
