CHIPPEWA COUNTY, Mich. (WLUC) - A man who had fled the Kinross area after being investigated for sexually assaulting two children has been found and returned to Chippewa County.

34-year-old Eric John Chambers, of Kincheloe, is facing six counts of criminal sexual conduct-1st degree (child under 13 years old) through the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office.

The charges stem from a 2020 investigation. According the the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office, the victim was between the ages of 13 and 17. The investigation resulted in multiple felony charges, but Chambers fled the area.

In 2021, the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office began investigating another incident involving another victim, a child who was under 13 years old at the time. This investigation resulted in another felony warrant for Chambers.

Soon after, investigators received information that the suspect in both cases was living in Colorado under a false name and had also changed his appearance. He was located and arrested on the outstanding warrants.

A Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office deputy drove out to Colorado and arrested Chambers, bringing him back to Michigan to face the charges.

He faces additional charges from the Kinross Police Department:

  • Criminal Sexual Conduct-1st Degree: Child 13-17 years old
  • Criminal Sexual Conduct-2nd Degree: Child 13-17 years old
  • Child distribution of obscene material

Chambers was arraigned in court on Friday. He was given a $1,000,000 bond with multiple restrictions.
