ISHPEMING, Mich. (WLUC) - Families are invited to enjoy free activities and games next week in Ishpeming.

On Wednesday, June 16, the Greater Ishpeming-Negaunee Area Chamber of Commerce (GINCC) will host its Children’s Carnival. The event will take place in the parking lot of River Rock Lanes and Banquet Center from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The carnival was canceled last summer due to the pandemic. GINCC executive director Bob Hendrickson says it is important to the organization to host a fun event for children after such a challenging year.

“It’s something that the board of directors for the chamber really wanted to have happen,” Hendrickson said. “We feel that kids have taken the brunt of a lot of this, so we’d like to provide a fun, safe atmosphere for them to enjoy some time just to be kids.”

Pre-registration for the Children’s Carnival is open until 5:00 p.m. on June 14. Those who pre-register will receive an extra entry in a drawing to win one of three bicycles. One bike is provided by the GINCC chamber, one is provided by J-Goods Plumbing and Heating, and the third is provided by the Ishpeming Fire Department. Guests can also register on the day of the event.

Hendrickson asks attendees to follow current COVID-19 protocols, and to bring a mask in case social distancing becomes difficult. Hand sanitizer will be provided.
