MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - The YMCA of Marquette County hosted its first ever fundraising golf tournament on Thursday. The event raised money for the Y’s many programs benefiting local families and youth.

140 golfers met at the Marquette Golf Club for the tournament. Silent and live auctions, along with lunch, were available to participants.

Organizers expect the event to raise about $40,000. Two employees say this will be one of the YMCA’s largest fundraisers in years.

“I think it’s gonna be our largest net proceeds in a very, very long time,” says Michele Butler, the YMCA’s Chief Volunteer Officer. “The value for the YMCA is gonna huge. It’s really gonna help our program meet our goals for our annual campaign.”

YMCA CEO Jenna Zdunek says it was encouraging to see so many people in the community coming together.

“Our Y’s been through a lot the past five years, so it’s just really nice to have this event, see everyone out here, the volunteers, the sponsors, a lot of our members,” says Zdunek.

All the golfers were invited to a dinner at the course after the tournament.
