Kwik Trip plans Upper Michigan expansion into Bessemer
The Midwest convenience store chain wants to add a new location in the middle of the city, on US-2.
BESSEMER, Mich. (WLUC) - It seems Kwik Trip has plans to quickly expand farther into Upper Michigan.
Last month, the City of Ironwood and Kwik Trip announced plans for its first U.P. location at 220 and 260 Cloverland Drive/US-2 in Ironwood, between Cloverland Motors and Comfort Inn. Kwik Trip already has operating locations in Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.
Now, the city of Bessemer has received a proposal for the next Upper Michigan Kwik Trip location.
According to a couple Facebook posts by the City of Bessemer, the Midwest convenience store chain wants to add a location at 117 E. Lead Street/US-2, the current site of Stempihar’s Gas Station. The gas station and parking area take up the location between south Moore Street and Sophie Street in Bessemer.
There will be a Bessemer Zoning Board of Appeals meeting on Tuesday, July 6, at 6:00 p.m. central to allow for discussion of the Kwik Trip sign height. Signs aren’t currently allowed to be taller than 15 feet, but Kwik Trip hopes to keep the same height as the current gas station sign which is 25 feet tall.
The city’s Planning Commission will discuss the overall proposed Kwik Trip plans during its meeting on Wednesday, July 7, at 6:00 p.m. central.
Public comments will be accepted before and during both public hearings.
