LITTLE LAKE, Mich. (WLUC) - An extreme water attraction has been added to the U.P. Sunrise Cottages resort. An aqua park was installed in the middle of Farmer Lake on Wednesday afternoon, which has a launch blob and a trampoline.

“The aqua park is very fun, and it’s really, really gigantic,” said Emma Martin, one of the co-owners’ daughters.

For years, the then-named Northern Lights Resort welcomed guests to vacation along the lakefront. Earlier this year, the original owners were selling the business. That is when about a month ago, their friends, the Martin family, stepped in.

“We were looking to start a new life for our family in the Gwinn area,” said co-owner Angie Martin. “We came out, took a look, and fell in love with the idea of taking on this crazy adventure as a family.”

Aside from sprucing up the cottages and other parts of the property, the Martins did not make many changes. However, they did change the resort’s name.

“I love sunrises,” Martin explained, “and I love to say ‘catch a sunrise with me.’ So that’s our slogan: ‘Catch a sunrise with us.’”

Martin’s children have also helped out around the resort and have so far enjoyed the experience.

“It’s really awesome and fun,” said Eliana Martin, another daughter of the co-owners. “The responsibilities are also kind of fun, but they can get a little old.”

The eight cottage spaces can house between four and ten people, and a jungle gym was added for kids to play on. The resort also has kayaks, canoes and rowboats for guests to use.

As for the new water park, Martin’s husband, Jeff, says it was something the resort needed.

“About five years ago, we had a family reunion in Canada, and the little campground there had a water park,” he explained. “When Angie and I bought the resort here, I said, ‘Angie, we’ve got to get an aqua park out there. That was so much fun. We have to have one.’”

Angie Martin say things are looking bright for the newly acquired business.

“We have a lot of bookings for July,” she stated. “We have lots of openings for this weekend. So, we’re hoping we can fill up with the addition of the aqua park that maybe local families will book a quick staycation.”

The Martins are looking forward to watching their guests experience the extreme water fun. To book a reservation, visit
