Marquette restaurants work together to keep Third Street busy
Vango’s teamed up with Stucko’s Pub & Grill to encourage the community to continue dining local.
MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Two Marquette restaurants are working together to keep a popular downtown street busy.
“Coming into the busy summer season, we’re very well aware that we’re going to be stressed with staff. So, we talked and decided that we would close one day a week,” said Vango’s co-owner, Michele Butler.
Vango’s Pizza and Cocktail Lounge on the corner of Third and Park street will be closed every Monday this summer.
Butler said this decision was made because of staffing issues.
“Once we turn into July and August, we have to move and shift our staff over to cover the busyness that we’re going to hopefully have,” she said.
But being closed one day a week on one of Marquette’s busiest streets means less foot traffic. That’s why Vango’s teamed up with Stucko’s Pub & Grill to encourage the community to continue dining local.
“Sonya Stucko and I worked together and create a reciprocity where we would encourage people through signage that when we’re closed on Mondays and they still wanted to be on Third St., Stucko’s is open,” said Butler.
And on Tuesdays Stucko’s is closed and redirecting patrons to Vango’s.
“The whole idea behind closing is so that at least one full day our staff, and ourselves as owners are going to get a break,” Butler said.
And Butler said keeping Third Street busy and supporting surrounding independent businesses is just as important.
“When you’re out and about, it’s easy and I’m not taking away from franchises, but it’s really easy to forget that the independent ones are the driving force behind communities.”
