Four people escape apartment fire in Escanaba

ESCANABA, Mich. (WLUC) - Four people are now without a home after their apartment building caught on fire.

According to Escanaba Public Safety, authorities responded to a fire at 306 S. 10th Street at 3:15a.m. Saturday.

When arriving at the scene, officers saw smoke coming out of the building.

The apartment has heavy fire, smoke, and water damage, with the upstairs sustaining most of the damage.

Officers said there were three occupants living in the downstairs apartment and one living upstairs.

The residents were alerted of the fire by their smoke alarm and got out safely. The cause of the fire is unknown.

Red Cross is assisting the occupants with housing.

The incident is still under investigation.

The Escanaba Public Safety was assisted by the Ford River Fire Department, Rampart EMS, DTE, Escanaba City Electric, Delta County Central Dispatch, and the Delta County Sheriff Department.
