HOUGHTON, Mich. (WLUC) - UPDATE: May 3, 3 p.m.

86-year-old Richard Trudgeon of Twin Lakes has been identified as the man who died Saturday morning in a crash on Saturday, according to the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office.

ORIGINAL STORY:

An 86-year-old man is dead after his side by side was hit head on by another vehicle.

According to Houghton County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened on M26 near Twin Lakes on Saturday morning.

The man was driving his side by side to the ORV Trail across the highway, when he did not yield to oncoming traffic.

An SUV driven by a 23-year-old man was unable to stop and hit the side by side head on near the southbound lane shoulder.

The SUV driver was uninjured. The 86-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released by authorities at this time.

The investigation remains under investigation. The Houghton County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Elm river Township FD, First Responders, Mercy Ambulance and Superior Service.
