HOUGHTON, Mich. (WLUC) - Houghton County residents are preparing for upcoming construction in the city of Houghton. The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) held a joint meeting tonight with the Houghton City Commission Wednesday for an update.

We learned the project will reconstruct US-41 through Houghton beginning with Townsend Drive continuing onto College Avenue, Franklin Square and eventually the east end of Montezuma Avenue. The two year project cost is estimated at $9.6 million and includes upgrades to underground sewer and water.

Lanes may be shifted and or reduced during the work and one-way detours are also planned. Work is scheduled to be done in the fall of 2022.
