Houghton Pier Project hits possible snag
HOUGHTON, Mich. (WLUC) - There could be a delay for the Houghton Pier Placemaking project. Wednesday night during the City Commission’s regular meeting the City Manager, Eric Waara, explained the issue to the commission.
Bids for the project went out Tuesday and the ones returned were twice the cost estimated. Project cost has been estimated at $3.5 million but the price of steel is about double what it was last year and that is the main reason for the delay.
The City Manager explained he would be working with the bidders to do what’s called ‘value engineering’ to see if the cost could be lowered somehow. No action was taken by the Commission during the meeting.
