ESCANABA, Mich. (WLUC) - Delta County has a family-friendly and socially distanced event coming up this weekend. The Delta County ISD is celebrating children on Saturday from 10 a.m. until two p.m. with its annual Funfest. But this year with a twist.

“We’re calling it a CAR-nival because they’re going to be in their cars,” said Laurie Mold, parent liaison for Delta County Great Start.

Funfest is normally an event held in the mall, but to keep people distanced, everyone will need to stay in their cars.

“It’s a drive-through event. So, they’ll come through the back parking lot at Escanaba high school and there will be different stations set up here alongside the ISD and going across and then exiting out,” said Mold.

For families who want to stick around, there’s a story walk and small obstacle course you can walk through. Along the drive there will be 11 stations with goodies for the first 300 kid.

“A craft, there’s going to be snacks, water, some different hands-on activities that they can take home and do with their families,” said Mold.

The event is structured for children from infants to eight years old.

“We partner with so many community agencies and what we do is we try to make it a fun experience for families we were also promoting good health and literacy,” said Mold.

It encourages families to spend time together and work on skills that will help children in the future.

“Engage with them and just talk about everything and that’s really what they need to do to help their kids to be successful in school,” said Mold.
