Escanaba Recreation Department prepares for summer
Tennis courts in Ludington park will be resurfaced.
ESCANABA, Mich. (WLUC) - The Escanaba Parks and Recreation Department is getting the city ready for outdoor activities. With warm weather just around the corner, people will soon be outside for summer activities.
“We’re in the process right now of doing some minor repairs to the benches, to the garbage cans. We’ve actually been cutting some grass and weed whacking,” said Kim Peterson, recreation director for the City of Escanaba.
If you’re looking for a way to make some extra cash this summer, the department is also looking for two soccer coaches and four lifeguards for the summer.
“They have to be registered through the Red Cross program which usually the [YMCA] does provide that program,” said Peterson.
But if you’re looking to help the department prepare for summer, donations are needed to repair the tennis courts.
“In order to do it right, we’re just looking for the remaining $26,000 so we can do this project and it will be lasting for a long time,” said Peterson.
The department wants to redo the tennis courts and make it into two tennis courts and six pickleball courts, all using a polyurethane surface.
“Pickle ball is so popular in the area nowadays. We’re hopeful that the community will come together, take a little pride in ownership in the project,” said Peterson.
Anyone interested in donating money for the project, or applying to be a soccer coach or lifeguard, can call the Recreation Department at 906-786-4141.
