MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - The longtime public address announcer for Northern Michigan University hockey games has stepped down after calling thousands of Wildcat goals.

Tim McIntosh notified the NMU Athletic Department Tuesday that he is unable to continue in the position. His voice has been synonymous with Wildcat hockey games at Lakeview Arena and the Berry Events Center for more than four decades.

“After 44 years of being the PA voice of Wildcat hockey, I have come to a very difficult decision,” McIntosh said in an email. “Effective today, I will be unable to continue at that position. My balance and mobility issues no longer permit me to do the job with the professionalism that it deserves. I have truly loved doing every game, but when it’s time, it’s time.”

McIntosh retired as the director of Marquette Junior Hockey last year.
