Iron Mountain football practicing in the Superior Dome ahead of Saturday game
MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - The Iron Mountain football team was practicing at the Superior Dome in Marquette Tuesday morning, and will practice there again on Thursday. The Mountaineers face Johannesburg-Lewiston at the Dome Saturday in a regional playoff game.
Football teams still alive in the playoffs in the state of Michigan are now dealing with trying to come back after a more than a month long delay. With limited time to prepare together as a team, every moment counts for the Mountaineers, who hope to win their first state title in 20 years.
“We’re treating it like the first game of a one game season, and with that first game comes some uncertainties,” said head coach Robin Marttila. “It might take a little bit of time to get your feet wet, but Johannesburg-Lewiston are in the same boat. We’re going to play a football game, it’s a great opportunity for our kids, and we’re looking forward to it.”
“Bringing the guys together outside of football has really helped a lot too,” said linebacker and tight end Bryce Pietrantonio. “We’re always around each other, always talking about football, always engaged in football. I’m excited, I think we have a good shot at making a good run, and we’re doing pretty well so far, so we’re going to keep it going.”
Kickoff Saturday at the Superior Dome is set for 5 p.m.
