ESCANABA, Mich. (WLUC) - The Salvation Army of Escanaba handed out at least 300 Thanksgiving meals Wednesday.

People were asked to RSVP ahead of time, but The Salvation Army didn’t turn anyone away. Nearly 50 turkeys were prepared for Wednesday and volunteers prepped the meals for about a week.

“We heard through the grapevine that The Community Foundation was not going to be able to serve this year at the high school. We didn’t want anyone to go without this year, so we decided to contact them and let them know we wanted to help out,” said Maj. Alex Norton of the Salvation Army of Escanaba.

The Salvation Army is also in need of bell ringers.  If you’re interested in helping, there are volunteer and paid positions available.

For more information on becoming a bell ringer, call The Salvation Army at (906) 786-0590.
