DICKINSON COUNTY, Mich. (WLUC) - As the holidays are approaching, so are the gifts.

Suzanne Larson, the director for the Dickinson Area Chamber of Commerce says this idea, a basket challenge, was made possible thanks to many companies.

“Now, we have 19 businesses, that have jumped on board with this; they’ve made a basket and they’ve donated it to the chamber,” she said.

Larson says because of the pandemic many of the chambers fundraisers, have been canceled. She says that’s why they decided on this new one, ‘Keep the Cheer Here.’

Now, it’s the community’s turn to vote; the baskets will soon be posted on Facebook, and anyone can choose their favorite, the winner gets a media package for local outlets.

Larson says there will also be a raffle, giving the baskets away beginning Dec. 1 through Dec. 23.

“The ticket prices are 2 for $10 dollars, 5 for $20 dollars or 15 tickets for $50 dollars, so you can go right online to purchase them,” she said.

Larson says that will put you in a drawing to win one of these baskets valued from 50 to 800 dollars and only 2,500 tickets were printed so get them fast.

She says without the businesses support this wouldn’t be possible.

“We have good community support our chamber of commerce members have stepped up and they’ve worked with us in promoting loyal to local as well as helping us with our fundraising efforts,” she added.

This is also a shop local event, encouraging people to shop small business first.
