Upper Michigan adds 217 cases, 9 deaths, as state data was delayed Thursday

Two cases were also removed in state data, in Alger and Keweenaw counties.

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Upper Michigan added 217 coronavirus cases and nine deaths Thursday. Two cases were also removed in state data.

The latest cases, deaths, and recoveries added are as follows (counties listed alphabetically, only shown if they had changes today):

  • Alger: (-1 case), 2 recoveries
  • Baraga: 4 cases, 8 recoveries
  • Chippewa: 4 cases, 3 recoveries
  • Delta: 29 cases, 4 deaths, 16 recoveries
  • Dickinson: 21 cases, 1 death, 4 recoveries
  • Gogebic: 16 cases, 4 deaths, 10 recoveries
  • Houghton: 14 cases
  • Iron: 9 cases, 11 recoveries
  • Keweenaw: (-1 case)
  • Luce: 16 cases
  • Mackinac: 2 cases, 12 recoveries
  • Marquette: 74 cases
  • Menominee: 17 cases, 10 recoveries
  • Ontonagon: 5 cases, 1 recovery
  • Schoolcraft: 6 cases, 1 recovery

As of Thursday, Oct. 29 at 7:00 p.m. eastern time, there have been a total of 5,674 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Upper Peninsula during this outbreak. Of those, at least 2,779 are considered recovered and 116 have resulted in death.

COVID-19 hospitalizations, out of the 10 U.P. hospitals and health systems reporting, show several dozen COVID-19 patients in Upper Michigan as of Monday, Oct. 26. Twenty patients are in the intensive care unit (ICU). Data wasn’t updated Oct. 29.

Aspirus hospitals have nine coronavirus patients, with five in the ICU. Baraga County Memorial Hospital has one coronavirus patient, with none in the ICU. Dickinson County Healthcare System has eight coronavirus patients, with one in the ICU. Munising Memorial Hospital has one coronavirus patient, with none in the ICU. OSF. St. Francis Hospital has eight coronavirus patients, with four in the ICU. UP Health System hospitals have 22 coronavirus patients, with nine of those in the ICU. War Memorial Hospital has two coronavirus patients, with one in the ICU. This data is available through MDHHS.

Out of the 148,069 diagnostic test results reported to the state from Upper Michigan for the entire coronavirus pandemic, 3.29 percent have come back positive for COVID-19 as of Oct. 29.

Michigan reported 3,271 new cases Thursday. So, the state’s total cases are up to 171,220. Fourty-one new deaths were reported statewide, with 22 from vital records review. In total, 7,298 people in Michigan have died from complications with the virus. State data Thursday was delayed as network connectivity issues pulled data past the normal 10:00 a.m. cutoff time.

“This resulted in some cases that would have normally been counted in [Friday’s] totals being included [Thursday],” the state said on its website.

Current statewide recoveries, updated Saturday on the state’s website, are at 114,939. The statewide recovery total is updated each Saturday on the MDHHS website.
