SOUTH RANGE -- While some parts of the Upper Peninsula have received a lot of snow, others have not yet accumulated much.

The lack of snow has impacted tourism business in South Range. The Wildlife Refuge Cabins has lost about $1,200 a day the past three weeks. The cabins were created specifically for snowmobiling and are dependent on how much snow the area gets.

"When we have a loss, we have a loss," said Wildlife Refuge owner Lori Sleeman. "This week, between Christmas and New Year's for all of us businesses, if we don't get the business now, we're in a deficit for the whole winter."

Many other businesses have been hit by the lack of snow, including many snowmobile shops and ski hills. There is currently only about eight inches of snow on the ground in Houghton.
