Seasonable weather has come to the U.P. just in time for the beginning of winter.
A group vists the Upper Peninsula from South America to share a Christmas season adventure on Norwegian Fjord Horses earlier this month in the Marquette area.
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Nothing says "happy holidays" like that postcard look of a thick coating of over a foot of snow on the ground. And that's exactly what we have in Upper Michigan after the latest winter storm ushered in the official start of astronomical winter yesterday.
It's a welcome change for many, I'm sure, after such a long warm streak. 2012 is still on track to go down as one of the warmest years, ever, on record for not only us but for much of the nation. So far this December, our daytime temperatures have been warmer than normal for most of the month. But for the next week, high temperatures should be much more seasonable, which means that the holidays will look and feel like the holidays.
Compared to the last few days, the Upper Michigan weather outlook appears fairly quiet. Other than small chances for light snow showers through next weekend, there is one thing worth mentioning. There will be a storm developing during the second part of next week across the Lower Mississippi valley. It will strengthen and lift to the northeast, bringing heavy snow and rain to areas east of the Great Lakes region.
Curious about how much snow we've seen so far? The National Weather Service has an
interactive map
on their website which lists the latest snow totals.
