What the U.P. needs is a good snow storm, but given the very above average temperatures for Sunday, it will likely be more rain than snow for much of the day. As of Sunday, we are 22" below average for snowfall at the NWS office, and the forecast is for temperatures 10 degrees or higher above average. The start of winter is less than a week away, and it doesn't feel like it at all.

Seasonal norms for Sunday are for a high of 26 and a low of 11, but forecasted highs are into the mid to upper 30s. There might even be a few 40s near Lake Michigan. Light precipitation is likely much of the day. It's difficult to be precise about what it will fall as, but a mix of rain and snow is most likely, though in the peak heat of the afternoon it may be all rain. For the areas that do see more snow, mainly in the higher terrains, it may fall as snow, but it will still be warm enough at the surface to make it melt almost immediately.

By the end of the day, there may be a few tenths of an inch of accumulation, mainly over the western half of the U.P.

Sunday night will cool down as winds begin to shift out of the northwest. Lows will be in the mid 20s west and low 30s east.

As the system moves away, lake effect snow under a northwest wind is likely for Monday. Again, however, it will not be much. Expect an inch or less in the northwest wind snow belts, mainly in the daytime. Highs will be a couple degrees cooler in the mid 20s to mid 30s.

Monday night should see an end to the snow. Temps will cool down to mainly the 20s.

Tuesday and Wednesday will see more above average temperatures around the freezing mark with a chance for a few flurries. The next major snow is looking to be on Thursday with another large low pressure system, and it looks like it will be cold enough to see more snow than rain.
