MARQUETTE -- If you're wondering what inner city Detroit and the continent of Antarctica have in common, one film maker says it's perseverance. He and researcher Freda Waara talked about their trip to Antarctica at the Peter White Public Library Sunday.
The film and photos contrast the harsh climate of Antarctica with the urban struggles of life in inner city Detroit. The exhibit is called "Condition One".
"What we came across, the people, the challenges, they always had a spirit of 'we can do this,' and that was inspiring, and when we got to Detroit, we started seeing some of the same things they're faced with--a lot of economic challenges in the city right now--and yet there are people that are saying, 'that's not gonna slow us down,'" said filmmaker John Major.
Major is working to have the film completed later this summer.
