MARQUETTE -- Lake Superior's waves were crashing ashore in Marquette into the breakwater at Presque Isle on Tuesday.

North winds over 40 miles an hour were whipping the lake into a frenzy, creating eight foot swells. The waves were also slamming the shoreline on Lakeshore Boulevard with water coming over the top of the rocks.

There were also a number of people out in the weather, hoping for that one in a million picture.

Waves out on Lake Superior were over 20 feet, which brought shipping to a standstill. Ore boats and their crews have taken refuge in ports and protected areas, waiting out the superstorm named Sandy.
