IRON MOUNTAIN -- Children and parents gathered at Bay College West Tuesday night for an interactive family engineering event.

The evening was hosted by the Dickinson Iron Menominee Math, Science and Technology Center.

They're trying to get kids involved in engineering activities and enjoy having the parents take part in the challenges, too.

Booths were set up to give kids a chance to test their engineering skills and win prizes.

"They have a roller coaster that you try to build and make a marble make enough momentum to go around certain turns.  I think it's a cool hands-on activity that everyone can do.  I think it's cool how they put this on for us, it's really fun," said fifth grader, Michael Halley.

Area businesses, such as Boss Snowplow and Systems Control, gave advice and answered questions.

The children enjoyed constructing and designing and putting their engineering skills to the test.
