MARQUETTE -- The Marquette Police Department responded to an alleged home invasion on Friday morning to find a homeowner, with gun in hand, standing in front of the alleged intruder.

According to police, 40-year-old David Leighton Locke had entered the home of a family on Craig Street at around 5 a.m. on Friday. A husband and wife woke up when their dog started barking, causing the husband to investigate. Police say that the homeowner discovered Locke in the basement and told him to leave several times.

Officers say that when they arrived they found the husband, with gun in hand, standing in front of Locke who was sitting on the couch. The husband secured his weapon upon the arrival and instruction of officers, according to the Marquette Police Department.

Locke was taken into custody and lodged at the Marquette County Jail. Police say alcohol was a factor in the case.

Two children were in the home at the time of the incident.
